Glossy evergreen leaves with brilliant red new growth, the standard choice for a colourful hedge.
'Red Robin' is upright and dense, reaching around 2 to 4m tall by 1.5 to 2.5m across, so it makes a tall boundary hedge or an architectural screen and can also be grown as a small tree. Vivid crimson new leaves appear in spring and again after a light trim, standing out against the mature dark green, and small white flowers open in late spring.
It is fully hardy, but late frosts and cold wind scorch the young red growth, so a sheltered position keeps it at its best. Give it well drained soil in sun or light shade, water through the first season and clip to shape; each cut brings another flush of red. Supplied as a well established 2L pot grown plant, well branched and ready to go straight out.
Cultural Information
Common Name: Photinia, red robin
Fully Grown Height and Spread: 2 to 4m tall by 1.5 to 2.5m wide
