Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia' is a cherry laurel, a fast growing evergreen with large glossy leaves that makes a dense hedge in sun or partial shade.

Cherry laurel is the classic evergreen hedge: big, glossy, deep green leaves all year, spikes of small white scented flowers in spring, and a habit of growing fast and big. Left uncut it reaches 8 metres or more, so as a hedge it needs at least one clip a year; use secateurs rather than shears, or the big leaves are left ragged. It takes most soils that are not waterlogged, copes with dry ground once established and with coastal air behind a windbreak, and is fully hardy, though cold drying winds can scorch the leaves in the coldest inland gardens.

Supplied as a well established young plant in a 2 litre nursery pot, grown in peat free compost, with the branching and roots to settle quickly and start forming a hedge. All parts, including the leaves and seed kernels, are harmful to people, dogs, rabbits and rodents if eaten.
