Tomato 'Golden Sunrise' – Heritage Yellow Tomato (2L Pot)

Tomato 'Golden Sunrise' is a heritage variety grown for its sweet golden-orange fruit and its long, steady crop.

The fruits are cherry sized and remarkably sweet, and a bowl of them alongside red tomatoes is what makes a summer salad look like something. Picking runs from July through to October, and the variety has a useful tolerance of blight for an old sort.

It is an indeterminate cordon reaching 150 to 180cm, so train it up a cane or string, pinch out the side shoots and space plants 45 to 60cm apart. Grow it in full sun in a warm sheltered spot: a bed, an allotment row, a greenhouse or a patio container of decent size. Plant it out only once all risk of frost has passed, because tomatoes are killed outright by the first frost and set back badly by cold nights. Water evenly rather than in bursts, since erratic watering is what causes blossom end rot and split fruit, and feed with a high-potash tomato feed once the first truss has set. Supplied as one established plant in a 2 litre root ball. Tomato foliage is in the same family as potato and is a known risk to pets, so keep animals away from the plants.
