Tomato 'Veranda Red' – Patio Cherry Tomato (2L Pot)

Tomato 'Veranda Red' is a compact patio cherry tomato bred for containers and small spaces, with nothing to stake or tie in.

It makes a neat bushy plant of 30 to 40cm each way and holds its trusses of small, sweet, bright red fruit on sturdy stems that ripen steadily from midsummer into early autumn. The fruit is good in salads, good for snacking and good cooked.

This is a determinate bush type, so no support and no side-shooting are needed. Stand it in a patio container, a window box, a raised bed or a small border in a warm sunny sheltered spot, and pick the fruit when it is fully red and firm. Plant it out only once all risk of frost has passed, because tomatoes are killed outright by the first frost and set back badly by cold nights. Water evenly rather than in bursts, since erratic watering is what causes blossom end rot and split fruit, and feed with a high-potash tomato feed once the first truss has set. Supplied as one established plant in a 2 litre root ball. Tomato foliage is in the same family as potato and is a known risk to pets, so keep animals away from the plants.
