Delphinium 'Pixie Rose Rocket' is a dwarf delphinium carrying sturdy spires of rose pink florets with a dark centre.
Grown in a group they give the same vertical accent as a full sized delphinium without the height, which suits a smaller border or a large pot. Bees and butterflies work the spires through the summer, and cutting the spent spikes back to the base usually brings a second, lighter flush later in the season.
It arrives as an established plant in a 3 litre pot, ready to go straight into the ground or a patio container. Give it fertile, moist but well drained soil. The shorter, sturdier stems stand up far better than a full height delphinium, so staking is rarely needed and an exposed spot is less of a problem. Rabbits and deer generally leave delphiniums alone.
Cut the whole plant down once the foliage yellows in autumn and mulch over the crown. Watch for slugs on the new shoots in spring, and divide established clumps every three or four years to keep them vigorous. All parts of a delphinium are harmful if eaten and the sap can irritate skin, so plant it away from where children and pets play and wash your hands after cutting it back.
