A dense, bushy evergreen whose small white flowers scent the garden in mid to late spring.
A hybrid of Osmanthus decorus and Osmanthus delavayi, burkwoodii carries glossy dark green leathery leaves on a neat, compact frame that reaches around 3m each way if left unpruned and clips readily to whatever size you want. It works as a formal or informal hedge, as screening, in a border or standing alone as a specimen.
The scented spring flowers pull in bees and other pollinators, so it earns its place in a wildlife friendly garden. Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well drained ground, allowing about 60 to 90cm between plants for a hedge, and water through the first growing season. Once settled it is hardy, tolerant of wind and salt, and low maintenance, needing only a light prune after flowering and a spring mulch. Supplied garden ready in a 3L pot.
Cultural Information
Common Name: Burkwood osmanthus
Fully Grown Height and Spread: Up to 3m tall by 3m wide, easily kept smaller by clipping
