Pyracantha 'Red Star' is a robust, thorny evergreen shrub widely valued for its dense growth, clusters of small white flowers in late spring and early summer, and an eye-catching display of vivid red berries from autumn well into winter. Commonly known as Firethorn, this versatile plant is ideal for training against walls and fences, creating impenetrable security hedging, or growing as a free-standing specimen in borders. Its thorny branches and thick evergreen foliage provide excellent cover and nesting sites for garden birds, while the berries offer a valuable food source through the colder months.
Supplied as an established plant in a 3 litre pot, this Pyracantha Red Star is ready for planting and will establish quickly in most garden conditions.
Key Features:
Cultural Information:
Planting and Care:
Plant in a sunny or partially shaded position in well-drained soil. Pyracantha is tolerant of most soil types and, once established, is drought-tolerant and low maintenance. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage berry production. When training against a wall or fence, tie in new growth regularly to establish a strong framework. Wear gloves when handling due to the sharp thorns.
