Calamondin Orange (Citrus x microcarpa) – Indoor Citrus Tree (5L Pot)

The calamondin, Citrus x microcarpa, is one of the more forgiving citrus for growing indoors, with scented white blossom and small tangy orange fruits, often together.

It has glossy dark green evergreen leaves, highly fragrant white flowers and a generous crop of miniature oranges with a sharp, tangy flavour that goes into marmalade, drinks and cooking. It can flower and fruit more than once a year, most prolifically in spring and summer, with the fruit at its best in autumn and winter. It tolerates lower light better than most citrus, which is why it does so well in a bright room or conservatory. Container grown it reaches 60 to 120cm tall and 40 to 80cm across.

Citrus is not hardy in Britain. Stand it outside in full sun from about May, then bring it into a bright, frost free place such as a conservatory, porch or cool greenhouse from about October until the frosts are over. A cool bright winter suits it far better than a warm dark room. It is self fertile, so one plant will fruit. Use a citrus feed through the growing season, water with rainwater where you can, and never let it sit in waterlogged compost. Bees visit the blossom when it is outside. Citrus is listed as harmful to pets if eaten.

It is supplied as an established tree in a 5 litre nursery pot. You can also choose to have it in one of our planters or the metal pail; the planter is a decorative pot only and does not change the plant.
