A mature 'Hidcote' lavender with deep blue spikes and richly aromatic silver green foliage.
This is one of the most dependable English lavenders, compact and bushy at around 40 to 60cm each way, and it makes a first rate low hedge, path edging or structural filler in a cottage, gravel or Mediterranean planting. It is equally at home in a raised bed, a patio planter or a window box, and the scented flowers and dried stems are useful for potpourri and cut arrangements.
Flowers open from June to August and bring bees and butterflies in numbers. Grow it in full sun in free draining sandy or chalky ground, adding grit if your soil is heavy, and water only while it establishes. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Trim lightly after flowering and again in spring to keep it compact, and never cut back into old bare wood. Supplied established and garden ready in a 5L pot.
