Cyclamen persicum, the florist's cyclamen, brings rich berry colour to pots, baskets and window boxes through autumn and winter, when little else is in flower. This Berrylicious Mix is a blend of deep pinks, purples and magenta shades, so the exact colour balance will vary from tray to tray.

The plants are compact and mound forming, with upright flower stems above heart-shaped green leaves marbled with silver. The swept-back petals and patterned foliage look good even before the flowers peak, and the flowering season is a long one, running from autumn well into the colder months.

They are ready to plant into containers, window boxes, hanging baskets or the front of a sheltered border, in a spot out of cold wind with some shade. They will take a light frost in a sheltered pot, but a hard or prolonged frost will kill them, so treat them as one season of colour rather than a permanent plant.

Water at the edge of the pot rather than into the crown, and let the compost dry slightly between waterings. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every two to three weeks while in flower, and pull off spent flowers with their stalks. Cyclamen tubers are toxic if eaten, to people and to pets, so keep cats and dogs away from them.
