Delivery detailsRosemary (Salvia rosmarinus, formerly Rosmarinus officinalis) is an evergreen, aromatic herb for the kitchen, and this one comes pre-planted in a Heart Logo Tin with a decorative moss rim, ready to give as a gift or to grow on a patio or in a herb garden.
The leaves are narrow, needle-like and deep green with silvery undersides, and they are highly aromatic. Pale blue to violet-blue flowers appear from late winter into spring, so the bees get an early source of nectar. Because rosemary is evergreen, you can pick sprigs all year for roasted meats, breads, vegetables and infused oils.
The rosemary is growing in the tin and arrives in it, with a moss finish around the rim. Give it the sunniest, warmest spot you have and make sure water can drain away freely, as sharp drainage matters more to rosemary than anything else. It is hardy through an average British winter, but a very cold, wet one can kill it, especially on heavy soil. It is a good choice for a patio, a kitchen garden, a herb border or a coastal garden. The tin design and moss finish may vary slightly from batch to batch.
Water moderately and let the soil dry out between waterings. Trim lightly after flowering to keep the plant bushy, feed sparingly in the growing season, and harvest regularly to encourage fresh growth. Rosemary can irritate sensitive skin, so wear gloves when pruning.
