Delivery detailsGrow your own Brussels sprouts with Brussel Sprout 'Bright', a reliable cultivar that produces generous crops of firm, sweet-tasting sprouts. These young plants give you a head start on the season and save you the time and effort of raising from seed.
You receive 12 plants, growing one to a cell in 2 plastic 6-cell trays, ready to be planted out into prepared beds or borders. With the right care you can expect a rewarding harvest from autumn into winter. Brussels sprouts are fully hardy and the flavour of the sprouts is sweetened by frost, so the plants can stand outdoors right through winter.
Plant them in full sun in fertile, firm, well-drained soil, spacing plants 45-60cm apart in rows 60-75cm apart. They are too large and stand too long to suit pots, so a vegetable bed or allotment is the place for them.
Growing tips:
- Plant into well-prepared ground as soon as possible after the plants arrive.
- Firm the soil hard around each plant. Loose ground gives open, blown sprouts and plants that rock in the wind.
- Water regularly, particularly in dry spells, and feed with a balanced fertiliser through the growing season.
- Stake taller plants as they mature to protect them against wind rock, especially on an exposed site.
- Net the plants to protect them from pigeons and cabbage white butterflies.
