They suit raised beds, allotment plots, patios and containers, and whether you are a first-time grower or an experienced gardener, this is a reliable and rewarding pea to grow at home.
What's included: 12 young Early Onward pea plants in 2 x 6-cell trays, ready to plant out.
Early Onward has a long-standing reputation for reliability and flavour, producing plump, well-filled pods of sweet, tender shelling peas. It has a semi-climbing habit and reaches a manageable height, which makes it a good choice for raised beds, containers and patio growing. It is also a good variety for beginners, families and children's grow your own projects, and because the plants arrive as established seedlings there is no sowing to do.
Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot in fertile, well-drained soil, and avoid waterlogging. Peas need support, so give them canes, sticks or pea netting from an early stage or they will flop and rot on the ground. Water regularly, especially in dry spells, and pick the pods often while they are plump and well filled to keep the plants cropping.
