Herb Alfresco is a ready planted container of seven kitchen herbs, chosen so there is something worth cutting all summer.
It arrives planted up with chives, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage and thyme, already rooted and growing, so you can start picking rather than potting up. The soft leaved herbs give you handfuls through the summer, while the woody Mediterranean ones, rosemary, sage and thyme, keep their leaves and carry on into the colder months.
Give it the sunniest spot you have, out of the worst of the wet. Herbs in a planter want free draining compost far more than they want feeding, so water when the surface dries and never let it stand in a saucer of water. Pick often and the plants stay bushy. Two things are worth knowing: mint runs and will take over a planter or a bed if it is ever moved on, so keep it in its own pot when you do, and chives will seed themselves about if the flowerheads are left, so cut them off once they fade.
