ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) – Evergreen Houseplant (12cm Pot)

The ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) is one of the most popular houseplants for anyone wanting striking foliage without the fuss, prized for its glossy dark green leaves and remarkable tolerance of low light and infrequent watering.

Whether placed in a dim corner, a north facing room or a busy desk, it adapts easily and keeps its good looks with very little attention. Growth is upright, with gently arching stems bearing smooth, pinnate leaflets that arise from an underground rhizome, which stores water and makes this one of the most drought tolerant houseplants available.

Give it bright indirect light if you can, though it copes just as well in medium or low light, and avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Let the compost dry out fully between waterings in a free-draining potting mix; overwatering, not neglect, is the most common cause of trouble, showing up as yellowing leaves or a soft, rotting stem. It is happy at normal indoor temperatures and needs no extra humidity, but should be kept well away from cold draughts and frost.

The ZZ Plant is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten, so position it out of reach of curious pets.
