Tomato 'Alicante' – Cordon Tomato (Set of 3 or 6)

Tomato 'Alicante' is a traditional garden variety grown as a cordon, giving truss after truss of firm, juicy fruit through the summer.

Trained up a single stem with the side shoots pinched out, plants reach around 120 to 200cm with support and spread 40 to 60cm. The fruit is medium sized, glossy and well balanced between sweetness and acidity, the sort of tomato that tastes of a real summer. Give it the warmest, sunniest place you have, in a greenhouse, a large container, a grow bag or a sheltered bed.

Plants are grown in peat free compost at our Yorkshire nursery and arrive with well established rootballs, ready to go into their final pot or bed once all risk of frost has passed. Water evenly rather than in fits and starts, since erratic watering causes blossom end rot and split fruit, and begin a high potassium feed once the first fruits start to swell. The fruit is for eating, but the leaves and stems belong to the same family as potato and are a known risk to pets.
