Tomato 'Stargold' – Grafted Golden Cherry Tomato (Set of 3 or 6)

Tomato 'Stargold' is a grafted cherry tomato carrying trusses of sweet golden-yellow fruit from July right through to October.

The fruit is bite-sized and ripens to a rich gold, sweet enough to eat by the handful and bright in a salad. Grafting onto a vigorous rootstock gives the plant more strength, better disease resistance and a heavier crop than the same variety on its own roots.

Stargold is an indeterminate cordon reaching 150 to 200cm, so it needs a sturdy cane or frame, the side shoots taken out as they appear, and a warm sheltered spot in full sun. It does equally well in a greenhouse, a grow bag, a large container or a sunny bed. Harvest the fruit once it turns a deep golden-yellow and parts easily from the truss. Plant it out only once all risk of frost has passed, because tomatoes are killed outright by the first frost and set back badly by cold nights. Water evenly rather than in bursts, since erratic watering is what causes blossom end rot and split fruit, and feed with a high-potash tomato feed once the first truss has set. Supplied as three or six established grafted plants in 1 litre root balls. Tomato foliage is in the same family as potato and is a known risk to pets, so keep animals away from the plants.
