A ready planted hanging basket of chilli 'Spicy Jane', a compact, free fruiting variety that is decorative at every stage.

Small upright fruit ripens through cream and yellow to orange and then deep red, so a single plant carries several colours at once. It is ornamental enough to grow for the look alone, and fully edible with a moderate to hot heat. Plants stay small at around 25 to 35cm each way. Small white self fertile flowers open through summer and fruit follows into autumn.

It arrives already planted and rooted in a 25cm basket, so there is nothing to pot up. Hang it somewhere warm, sunny and sheltered, water regularly so the compost stays moist but never waterlogged, and feed weekly with a high potassium feed once the fruit starts to set. Chillies are not hardy and are killed by the first frost, so bring the basket under cover as the nights turn cold.

Chilli fruit and foliage can irritate the skin and eyes, and can cause irritation if eaten, so wash your hands after picking and keep plants out of reach of children and pets.
