Toscana is the strawberry to grow where the plant will be looked at as well as picked from. The flowers are a deep rose-pink rather than the usual white, and the trailing habit sends foliage, blooms and ripening berries over the rim of the basket together. The fruit is medium-sized, conical and properly sweet, cropping from late spring through to autumn, so this is an ornamental plant that happens to feed you.

Hang it where it gets sun for most of the day, though it will cope with some shade. Water regularly, especially in warm weather and while fruit is swelling, and feed every week or two with a high-potash tomato feed once flowering starts. Remove runners so the plant puts its energy into fruit rather than offspring, and net it if the birds find the berries before you do. No potting up is needed, and no basket liner or bracket is included beyond what you see.
