'Kamieniar' is an upright, vigorous gooseberry from Ukrainian breeding, grown for large greenish-yellow berries that ripen sweet.

The fruit is pleasant enough to eat straight from the bush and equally good in puddings, jams and preserves. The variety has good resistance to American gooseberry mildew, so it stays healthy without much intervention, and its upright habit makes it easier to pick and prune than a sprawling bush.

Gooseberries are self fertile, so a single plant will crop. Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter worked in, and water through the first season while it roots out. Prune in winter, removing older wood to keep an open goblet framework and encourage new fruiting growth. The stems are thorny, so gloves help at picking time.

Supplied as an established bush in a 2 litre pot, ready to plant into a border, an allotment or a large container.
