Tomato 'Brandy Boy' – Beefsteak Tomato (2L Pot)

Tomato 'Brandy Boy' is a beefsteak tomato carrying large pink-red fruit with the rich, old-fashioned flavour of Brandywine.

Individual fruits run from 200 to 450g, meaty rather than juicy, and one of them will fill a sandwich or a plate of sliced tomatoes. It is a hybrid bred from the heirloom, so it keeps the flavour while adding vigour, better disease resistance and a heavier crop. Fruit ripens from midsummer into early autumn.

Brandy Boy is an indeterminate cordon reaching 150 to 180cm, so it needs a strong stake, regular tying in and the side shoots pinched out. Grow it in full sun in a warm sheltered spot, a bed, a border, a grow bag or a large container. Plant it out only once all risk of frost has passed, because tomatoes are killed outright by the first frost and set back badly by cold nights. Water evenly rather than in bursts, since erratic watering is what causes blossom end rot and split fruit, and feed with a high-potash tomato feed once the first truss has set. Supplied as one established plant in a 2 litre root ball. Tomato foliage is in the same family as potato and is a known risk to pets, so keep animals away from the plants.
