Tomato 'Summerlast' – Salad Tomato (2L Pot)

Tomato 'Summerlast' is a heavy cropping salad tomato that keeps fruiting later in the season than most.

The fruit is medium sized, round and red, sweet and useful for everything from sandwiches to sauce. Cropping runs from summer into late autumn, which is where the name comes from, and the variety has a good record for shrugging off disease.

It can be grown either way. Pinch out the side shoots and tie it to a cane to run it as a cordon, or let it bush out and leave it alone. Expect 100 to 150cm tall by 40 to 60cm across depending on how you train it. Give it full sun and shelter in a bed, a raised bed, a container, a patio pot or a greenhouse. Plant it out only once all risk of frost has passed, because tomatoes are killed outright by the first frost and set back badly by cold nights. Water evenly rather than in bursts, since erratic watering is what causes blossom end rot and split fruit, and feed with a high-potash tomato feed once the first truss has set. Supplied as one established UK-grown plant in a 2 litre root ball. Tomato foliage is in the same family as potato and is a known risk to pets, so keep animals away from the plants.
