Tomato 'Supersteak' – Beefsteak Tomato (2L Pot)

Tomato 'Supersteak' is a beefsteak variety grown for giant, meaty fruit, the sort you slice rather than scatter.

Individual fruits can reach 900g, which is a single tomato across a whole sandwich or a plate of slices with oil and salt. Cropping runs from midsummer into early autumn, and the plant carries the weight well for a variety with fruit this size.

Supersteak is an indeterminate cordon reaching 150 to 180cm, so it needs a strong stake, regular tying in and the side shoots removed. Grow it in full sun in a sheltered south-facing spot, under glass, in a raised bed, an allotment row or a large container. Plant it out only once all risk of frost has passed, because tomatoes are killed outright by the first frost and set back badly by cold nights. Water evenly rather than in bursts, since erratic watering is what causes blossom end rot and split fruit, and feed with a high-potash tomato feed once the first truss has set. Supplied as one established plant in a 2 litre root ball. Tomato foliage is in the same family as potato and is a known risk to pets, so keep animals away from the plants.
