A green fruited gooseberry supplied as a large, well rooted bush in a 5 litre pot, ready to crop.
Green gooseberries are among the easiest soft fruits to grow in Britain. Picked slightly under-ripe they are sharp and perfect for pies, crumbles and jam; left a little longer on the bush they sweeten into something worth eating fresh. One bush is enough, because gooseberries are self fertile, and it will keep cropping year after year with very little fuss.
Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. Gooseberries are one of the few fruits that still crop properly in a cooler, part shaded corner, which makes them useful in a garden with limited sun. Prune in winter to an open goblet framework, mulch in spring and water in dry spells while the fruit is swelling. The thorny stems make good cover for nesting birds, and they call for gloves at picking time.
Supplied in a 5 litre pot, ready to plant out or to pot on.
