Ferns & Grasses

Ferns and ornamental grasses bring texture, movement and structure that flowers alone cannot. All grown peat-free in Yorkshire and delivered garden ready.

Most ferns are happiest in shade and damp corners, while grasses add height, rustle and autumn interest in the sun. The planting calendar on each product page shows the best months to plant.

Common questions

Do ferns need shade?
Most ferns prefer shade or partial shade and a soil that does not dry out, which makes them perfect for the corners where flowering plants struggle. A few tolerate more sun if kept moist.
When should I plant ferns and grasses?
Spring and autumn are the best times, though container-grown plants can go in through most of the year with regular watering. Each product page has a planting calendar.
Do you cut back ornamental grasses?
Deciduous grasses are cut back in late winter before new growth starts. Evergreen grasses just need a comb through to remove dead blades.
